About The Show
Returning to the stage after more than a decade, Jodie Whittaker (known for Doctor Who and Broadchurch) stars in Zinnie Harris’ contemporary adaptation of The Duchess of Malfi at the Trafalgar Theatre for a limited run of 11 weeks.
The story centres on the recently widowed Duchess (played by Whittaker), who defies her family by marrying a man of lower social standing in her quest for a new beginning. Her brothers, consumed by greed and rage, react to her second marriage with a series of brutal and repressive measures aimed at undermining her authority. But will their cruel actions ultimately backfire?
Directed and adapted by the award-winning Zinnie Harris (known for Macbeth (an undoing)), this powerful rendition of John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi delves into the clash between patriarchal oppression and female resistance.
This vivid and compelling production premieres on 5 October 2024.
